The well researched vignettes of the Thomas and Laughter families and Neil Allen's vivid description of life in Northern Mississippi following the Civil War are treasures.

Also, please let me know of any sources of names and dates from cemeteries of the area that was old Tryon, Rutherford, Burke Counties, of North Carolina, and upper South Carolina. . . Plus other stuff. Need records from cemeteries, marriage bonds, deeds, census, slave list, old newspapers, land grants, relationships and links to other local sites.

The Larter Society Site. Ron Larter of Suffolk, England, maintains the Larter Society site and has a section under construction of Laughter / Lawter surnames. (Larter is a modern variation of Laughter / Lawter in the U.K.) Ron has researched the origin of Laughter / Lawter / Larter and other variations. (You can read his comments in the Laugher Name Page). A site well worth a visit. The Society has produced a list of Laughter / Lawter names of the U.K., 1548-1800.
Ellis Island Records Site. The site has records of immigrants to the U.S. who landed on Ellis Island in New York Harbor. Ellis Island is now a national park with a museum honoring those who sailed past the Statue of Liberty to become Americans.
