Selected Works
Henry St. John Bolingbroke

(1678-1751)

Another widely read and often quoted writer and philosopher. Bolingbroke's name is invoked as reference in many documents written by the founders, such as the Federalist Papers and in letters between educated movers and shakers of the time. The selections below are presented here so that the reader can get some appreciation of his presentation style. Much more material is available on the Internet and, of course, his works may be found in most well stocked libraries.

Letters on the Study and Use of History, 1735.

The Idea of a Patriot King, Dec. 1, 1738.

Dissertation Upon Parties, 1733-34.
