The site has links to hundreds of other resources.

Educational Cyber Playground site is designed primarily for teachers and offers resources related to technology, arts, linguistics, music, literacy, and many other subjects. The teachers section offers lesson plans, a bulletin board, and links to educational organizations.

Education World is an excellent guide to educational resources on the Web, and offers search word access to a database of more than 120,000 sites that can also be browsed by content area.

FREE Federal Resources for Educational Excellence. The department and more than 40 other federal organizations have created a web site that makes teaching and learning resources from across the federal government available in one place.

Gateway Org A new tool is now available to help teachers choose a site from thousands of learning resources on the Internet. The Gateway Org is designed for teachers to type a topic, grade level, and other information into a search screen that then retrieves, from more than 140 web sites, lessons, instructional units, and other free educational materials on that topic, for that grade level.

Google Directory of reference and education sites, including a collection of links to a variety of government resources geared towards students, i.e., information on financial aid programs, international study, community service, and career development. There is also a portal of educational links for elementary schools, grade-high schools, college and university, distance learning, continuing education, profession courses and research.

Harcourt School Publishers is an outstanding example of a company site that offers online materials and activities to support its curriculum products in every content area. Most are appropriate for any elementary school. The resources are organized by grade level and can be searched.

National Geographic Society On the evening of January 13, 1888, thirty-three men traveled on foot, horseback, and in horsedrawn carriages through the streets of Washington to the Cosmos Club, then on Lafayette Square across from the White House. Scholastic Inc. is a comprehensive and well organized site offering an outstanding selection of content targeted for students, teachers and parents. The teacher section includes lesson plans, research tools, online activities by grade level and professional resources. The Web pages are packed with information, and a site map makes it easy to find specific resources.

TeachersFirst is a free Internet web site for K-12 teachers, containing thousands of quality resources for classroom and professional use. The simple design of TeachersFirst saves time and makes it easy to use. Each Web link and lesson plan has a brief review of the content and how it can be used with students, written by a classroom teacher. There is a short tutorial on how the Internet can be used for educational purposes and a variety of other professional materials for teachers.

TeacherSource offers daily updates to educational programming features on PBS, television listings grouped by subject, and links to local station Web sites that are accessed by entering zip codes. The site also offers tips on teaching with technology and television, a teacher programming preview newsletter and links to PBS sites for adults and children. The site offers more than 1,300 standards based lesson plans and activities in every content area that can be searched by age levels ranging from preschool through high school.

Think Quest Org ThinkQuest Programs provide a highly motivating opportunity for students and educators to work collaboratively in teams to learn as they create web based learning materials and teach others.

A four-year, comprehensive high school, Acton-Boxborough Regional High School serves students from the towns of Acton and Boxborough, which are located twenty-five miles west of Boston. The current population of Acton is 19,100; that of Boxborough is about 4,400.
