Burchet (Burchett)(Burchel) Columbus Lawter is buried at Cane Creek Baptist Church. He was a Methodist Minister but did not preach at Cane Creek. Also buried at Cane Creek Cemetery are:

There's a conflict in the spelling of the Merrit (Merit) and Burchet (Burchett) (Burchel) names. Some records indicate "Merrit" and "Burchet" or "Burchett" while the 1880 Census, Rutherford County, North Carolina, has them as "Merit" and "Burchel."
