Note 1: Valentine Mayfield and Amey P. Hunt, parents of John Samuel Mayfield, were married 08 Apr 1816 in Granville Co., NC. After 1830 they moved their family to Gibson Co., TN. Census records for 1840 list John S. Mayfield in Fayette Co., TN. Note 2: Valentine Mayfield's wife, Amey P. Hunt, is apparently the half-sister of Frances 'Franky' Hunt, wife of William B. Their information shows that Martha 'Fanny' died after 1849 (the year her youngest child, Christopher Columbus Mayfield, was born in Kentucky) and before the 1850 census.
Note 4: [from various sources] In the probate records for Frances Hunt Laughter, Book 7, Pg. 675-676 dated Oct. 23, 1861, DeSoto Co., Miss., three minor Mayfield children are named: William Mayfield, Thomas Mayfield, and Columbus Mayfield. It is believed that there were two other Mayfield children, E.F. and C.
