Frances 'Franky' Hunt Laughter
Martha 'Fanny' Laughter Mayfield
John S. Mayfield

Note 1: Valentine Mayfield and Amey P. Hunt, parents of John Samuel Mayfield, were married 08 Apr 1816 in Granville Co., NC. After 1830 they moved their family to Gibson Co., TN. Census records for 1840 list John S. Mayfield in Fayette Co., TN.
William B. Laughter, Sr., husband of Frances 'Franky' Hunt, died in 1837 and it is believed that 'Franky', mother of Martha 'Fanny' Laughter Mayfield, at some point may have lived in the household of John S. Mayfield, Martha 'Fanny', and their children.

Note 2: Valentine Mayfield's wife, Amey P. Hunt, is apparently the half-sister of Frances 'Franky' Hunt, wife of William B. Laughter, Sr.

Note 3: Mayfield descendants, Kent Townsend and Ernie R. Bailey provided most of the information on the Mayfield line and believe that Martha 'Fanny' Laughter Mayfield is buried in Ballard Co., Kentucky although no grave site has been found. Their information shows that Martha 'Fanny' died after 1849 (the year her youngest child, Christopher Columbus Mayfield, was born in Kentucky) and before the 1850 census.
Ernie R. Bailey writes on Martha Fanny's oldest son: "... William Valentine Mayfield [1838-1923], settled here (Calloway & Graves Counties) in western Kentucky and raised a large family. ..."

Note 4: [from various sources] In the probate records for Frances Hunt Laughter, Book 7, Pg. 675-676 dated Oct. 23, 1861, DeSoto Co., Miss., three minor Mayfield children are named: William Mayfield, Thomas Mayfield, and Columbus Mayfield. It is believed that there were two other Mayfield children, E.F. and C.
[Kent Townsend wrote to the clerk in DeSoto county and asked for a copy of the probate record mentioned in this note. The clerk responded that there is no such record.]
