The tombstone of Baylus [Balis] Bruce Laughter [First son of Samuel] is in Henderson Co., NC, in the Pleasant Hill cemetery off Kanuga Road and reads:
Balis B. Aug 27, 1860-June 22, 1944. Adeline Feb. 14, 1869-1921.

The Henderson County Census for 1870 has the following entry:
155. LAUGHTER, Samuel 32, 300, 200, N.C.

Douglas Laughter's book, 'Laughter Family Genealogy' shows a James Baylus Laughter, Born: 29 Jan 1862, Buncombe Co., NC, but no other record has been found. He is NOT listed in the 1870 census records.
