William R. Biddy Married Elizabeth Laughter

"Henry and William R. Biddy both were enlisted (conscripted I believe) on 14 Jul 1862 at Rutherfordton, Rutherford County NC as Privates, Company F, 62nd Regiment NC Infantry (State Troops). The family story I heard is that William, at least, hid from the "recruitment" officers as he wasn't interested in war. He stayed in the "Biddy Caves" and came out to hoe the corn by moonlight. His wife brought him food on the sly. I've not been up to the caves myself but have had the site pointed out to me on the mountain. I've heard it was an area that would shelter 100 men. His ploy didn't last long. William is buried at Coopers Gap Baptist Church in Polk County NC. The area where the community of Dimsdale was located is on up the mountain. I don't recall where Henry Biddy is buried, maybe I have it written somewhere but it's not in my computer."
